STUDY METHODS

‘You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.’
Clay P. Bedford

Many children mistakenly think that doing homework and studying means:

  • Revising material by reading it through repeatedly
  • Doing homework or revising in front of the TV or with the radio on at full volume
  • Reading class notes whilst listening to music on an MP3 player
  • Sitting or lying on the floor with their books on their laps or on the floor in front of them
  • Working at a computer with an instant messaging programme or the internet active
  • Studying with their cellphone on hand with MXit or another instant messaging application active

Needless to say, none of the above makes for true information retention! The most common barrier to success is a lack of effective techniques for study and exam preparation.

The path for effective learning is through knowing

  • yourself
  • your capacity to learn
  • the learning process best suited to you

Research has shown that the more we become aware of our own learning style, the better we learn. Our network of Edu-Profilogists™ have the expertise to teach you and your child effective study methods that result in improved exam results when properly used.

Whilst it is true that individuals take in information differently, using incorrect study methods will not only result in less information being retained, but also stress in exam conditions. Stress Management is the ability to maintain control when situations, people, and events make excessive demands, such as during exam periods. What you can do to help your child manage stress? Your child’s GBO Profile has a significant impact on their stress triggers and how they respond to stress. Please click here to contact us for further information.
